Theater and Dinner – Social, January 11, 2025

LAB members and guests met for this favorite local theater event: the Surfside Playhouse production of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” followed by dinner at Squid Lips in Cocoa Beach. The eleven in attendance agreed the play was very well done and it sparked some meaningful discussion. Dinner with a view of the Indian River and spectacular sunset capped off the evening. This social and networking event kicked off the New Year and the 2025 work year in a positive way. See LAB’s Group Facebook Page for photos and more information.

Summer Banquet. Saturday, July 20, 2024

Highlights

The annual banquet at River Rocks in Rockledge began at 5:30, with fifteen members and guests in attendance. We enjoyed an fun presentation, networking, great food, and prizes.

LAB hosted local author and educator, Carrie Wells. Professor Wells gave an informative and entertaining presentation at the event, and her novels and author swag were made available to the attendees.

A short business meeting was conducted where past-president, Kathy Turner, installed the 2024-2025 Officers: Deborah Anderson, President; Mauri Baumann, Vice President; Holly Tkaczykh, Treasurer.

Community Involvement Partnership. Saturday, June 29, 2024.

LAB, in partnership with the local NAACP, is invited to assist with this quarter’s community cleanup effort. Kathy Turner will be your LAB point of contact at the event.

Continuing Education Event. April 5, 2024, 2:30-4:30 at West Melbourne Public Library. Dr. Scott Tilly will present on AI for in libraries and educational environment.

December 2023 holiday “Meet and Greet” social at Tuscany Grill was deemed a success! Toys were donated in Lynn Bennet’s memory and delivered to the Salvation Army. Prizes were raffled at the end of the meeting. The event was well attended and a great kick-off for 2023-2024 LAB.

2015 — The summer banquet took place on Friday, July 8, 2015 at The Mansion in Melbourne where there was much fun, good conversation, and good food.  Secretary Lynn Bennet raffled off prizes, and new officers President Chelsea Stripling and Vice President/President Elect Adam Chalmers were welcomed.

Coming up on October 1 is the first meeting of the LAB Book Club at 6 PM at the Starbucks in Indian Harbour Beach.  The address is 1918 Hwy. A1A, and the book for discussion is “Spare Parts: Four Undocumented Teenagers, One Ugly Robot…”

The annual Continuing Education Workshop, “Library Maker Spaces,” is scheduled for November 4 from 3 PM – 5 PM in the Digital Scholarship Laboratory (DSL) at Florida Institute of Technology’s Evans Library.  The DSL Support Manager, Martin Gallagher, will discuss maker labs in library settings, as well as the challenges and lessons learned in managing the DSL.
